We can't verify what it's like for other systems (multiples), but we can at least let you know what it's like for us.
It's confusing. Sometimes scary. Sometimes very good. Finding stability, finding peace... it's hard. Meds help (when we remember to take them).Think of it like this: being at a family reunion. There are people everywhere. some of them are outside, some are inside a building. But they're all together in what is essentially one space. It's okay if you don't understand. Our inner world is more like an entire town - we have a several different places to live, as well as public buildings like a library and a grocery store. It wasn't always this way, but it's how it is now.
There are benefits, of course (such as whenever we feel threatened or scared, a protective alter will come out and keep us safe). Plus not everybody who lives in our head is in charge. About five alts total are out regularly,
